In this article, you’ll be taught how to connect an Xbox One S and One X controller to a Fire TV device. The process is fairly simple.

Connecting to a Fire TV device

  1. First, you’ll need to get the controller into pairing mode. To do that, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller to power it on. This will most likely power on your Xbox console as well, simply press and hold the Xbox button on the console to shut it down.
  2. On the controller press and hold the sync button which is on the top of the controller for about 2-3 seconds. You’ll know the controller has entered pairing mode when the Xbox button starts to flash.
  3. On the Fire TV device go to the main system “Settings”, “Remotes and Bluetooth Devices”, “Game Controllers”, and select “Add a New Game Controller”.  Then select “Xbox Wireless Controller” device.
  4. You’re all done. You’ll know your device has paired with the controller if the light on the controller stops flashing and becomes solid. You can also test it out by navigating through the settings menu using the controller.

Connecting back to Xbox One S/One X Console

To pair the controller back with your console:

1. Press the Xbox button on the console to power it on and then press the sync button on the console (it’s a rather small button).

2. Going back to the controller ensure it’s on, if it isn’t then simply press and hold the Xbox logo button to power it on. Once it’s powered on press and hold the sync button on the top of the controller for about 2-3 seconds.

3. The controller should then automatically pair back to your console within a few seconds. You’ll know it’s paired when the Xbox button on the controller is a solid colour.
