In this tutorial we’ll go over how to connect a PlayStation 5 controller to an Nvidia Shield media player.

Just keep in mind that while this method does allow the PS5 controller to connect with the Shield, it doesn’t guarantee that the app you plan to use it with will work. In addition, there’s no guarantee that this will work with the PC gaming you’re streaming from your PC (if you have an Nvidia graphic card) using the GeForce game streaming experience.

Controller Setup

  1. To put your PS5 controller into pairing mode, press and hold the “PS” Button and “Share” buttons on the controller until the controller lights start to flash. The flashing light means it’s in pairing mode. Now let’s connect it to the Shield.

Connecting to Nvidia Shield Device

  1. Open the main system “Settings” menu found at the top right of the screen.
  2. Select “Remotes & accessories” and then “Add accessory” (assuming you have Bluetooth turned on).
  3. When “Wireless Controller” appears, select it. Wireless controller is what the PS5 controller will appear as.
  4. That’s a wrap. To confirm it’s working okay, you can navigate the Shield immediately by using the controller’s “O” button navigate back, using the joystick to move around, etc.

Connecting Back to PS5

To connect your PS5 controller back to your PS5 is fast and easy.

  1. Power on your PS5 console using the power button on the console.
  2. Take the PS5 USB cable, plug one end into your console and the other into the controller.
  3. Then press the PS button on the controller, now you can disconnect the USB cable and use your PS5 controller in wireless mode.
