Welcome, in this guide I’ll go over how to stream your PlayStation 5 to your PlayStation 4 (the steps are the exact same for PS4 Pro). So wipe away the dust being collected on your PS4 and let’s get started.
I highly recommend that you connect both the PS4 and PS5 to a wired Ethernet connection as this method will stream the gameplay over your local network. If that’s not possible, then the device(s) connected to WiFi, ensure it has a strong WiFi connection for best performance.
Streaming PS5 to PS4
If you haven’t turned your PS4 on in a while, update it to the latest firmware version. Then, leave it powered on to whatever TV or monitor you want to use it with.
Now head over to your PS5 and open the main Setting menu – select “System” – “Remote Play” on the left – switch the toggle for “Enable Remote Play” to on. At this point, you can turn off the TV connected to your PS5.
Head back to your PS4 and open the “PS5” app on the main page. You’ll be prompted to “Find Your PS5”, select it – accept the prompt to activate Remote Play on the PS5 (we already covered this).
After a few seconds, it’ll connect your PS5 and you’ll be controlling it remotely! The picture might be a bit blurry at first (even if both consoles have a wired connection), give it a bit and the picture will become clear (unless you have weak WiFi).
In my testing, playing games such as Infamous: Second Son from my PS5 to my PS4 Pro works great. It obviously doesn’t look as clear on the TV with my PS5 but it’s still surprisingly clear.
Disconnecting Remote Play
As you can see, the process is incredibly easy but there are a couple of things to consider.
The first is to disconnect Remote Play. On your PS4 controller, press the PS button. You’ll be presented a menu and one is to “Disconnect”. From here, you’re presented with two options:
-Leave Power On – This keeps the PS5 in full power mode and assumes you want to resume gameplay on the PS5.
-Put In Rest Mode – This puts the PS5 to “sleep” so it can continue to receive firmware updates automatically if you enable it.
The second item to be mindful of is that you can’t connect the PS5 DualSense controller to a PS4. Technically there are some workarounds on the internet to accomplish it but it’s a hassle and you won’t get the full functionality of the controller. It’s best to use your PS4 controller on your PS4.
